I have read lots of people giving the thumbs up for AVG. I had to
find something besides Norton AV which would not work half the time
and often missed viruses. When I first installed AVG (free version) I
was pretty impressed. But now I am starting to wonder....
It appears that AVG does not listen to the user requests, and then it
installs unauthorized things and does not list them.
What I am referring to is this: It asked me if I wanted to install a
plugin for my email. NO, I dont want my email scanned. I use a text
only based software program. I DO NOT allow attachments to be
downloaded, unless I choose them. My email is not a path for viruses
and I DO NOT want it scanned. Yet, all my emails (in and out) were
being tagged with an ad from AVG stating the virus checking was out of
date. This was really getting me irritated.
I finally found it DID install a plugin, and yet it does NOT show it's
installed. I had to manually delete the .DLL it stuck in my plugings
folder for my email.
What kind of software is this? I dont like it when software does
things that the user tells it not to. I'm not sure what other
software to get for AV, but I am going to uninstall AVG.
In addition to this, I just installed AVG 3 weeks ago, and updated it
at that time. 3 weeks later, I just clicked on Update, it told me I
need to download 53 megs of stuff to update it. I am on dialup
internet. 53 megs is many hours of downloading. I sure the hell am
not going to go thru this every 3 weeks.
I am extremely dissatisfied with AVG.
