I have AVG free installed on one of my computers which I use at work.

I think that is contrary to your EULA.

"You may install (download) and use only one copy of the program
designated for protection of exclusively one personal computer"

Yup. Not a business computer.

I have AVG free installed on one of my computers which I use at work.
From that computer I cannot update nor even access the AVG website.
When I try through a proxy (http://www.proxyz.be/) then I can get to
the site and download .bin files. Unfortunately I can't use these bin
files - I looked at several previous posts about where to put them but
nothing has worked. I'm on XP SP2 with AVG 7.0.289. Help!?!

Hm, I wondered about that but it's a university which normally doesn't
count.

The Bins from the regular AVG site will not work on AVG free.
Go to the AVG free site and do the update (bins) from there.

Mich...

Select Update Manager "Properties" and uncheck the box "Do not ask for the
update source"
Now when you select "Check for update", select "Folder" and browse to
wherever you've stored the "bin" files.
Should work. I do it all the time for large updates where I don't want to
have to download it more than once.

Can this/these file(s) be downloaded as a sceduled task?

How can I have AVG Free edition downloaded automatically at regular
intervals to a local disk store?

As the file name keeps changing I don't see how this is possible but maybe
someone will offer a suggestion.
I'm certainly no expert.
