Help!

I am unable to link with the main site to get database updates. I get a
message saying that the program cannot connect with my server.

I am using the freeware version 7.3 build300. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled it twice already.

I have the same problem. This is after it connected with the server, and
told me that a major update over 2 M in size was required. Now, it
connects briefly and the connection is then shut down by THEIR server. I
even shut my firewall down to see if it was doing it.

It may be that the new program is set up to force a disconnect if the
server is full. I remember the huge problems updating AVG 6, especially
after a new virus or worm was discovered.

Thank you for your help, Elaich. Let me explain what I did after I sent my
help message. It is convoluted, so please bear with me. It does APPEAR that
my virus database has been updated.

SUMMARY
1. download the update from www.grisoft.com
2. change certain settings in AVG control center
3. carry out the update

DETAILS
1. download the update from www.grisoft.com
a. log on to the main page
b. go to 'downloads'
c. download the appropriate file (depending on your present AVG program
configuration) to a folder of your choice (eg. c:\temp). In my case the file
was u7avi423u4145p.bin (101,869 bytes)

2. change certain settings in AVG control center
a. Open the AVG Control Centre
b. Click on 'Update Manager'
c. Remove the check mark from 'Do not ask for update source'. (This means
the program will ask for the update source at the proper time)
d. Click on 'Apply' then 'OK'

3. Carry out the update
a. In the window that now appears, click on 'Check for updates"
b. go to the folder where you have kept the downloaded file ie. C:\temp
c. Click on OK, and the update will be carried out

NOTES:
A. When op 3c was carried out, it took maybe 2 seconds. In comparison,
earlier updates took about 30 secs or more
B. I checked the updates box in Control Centre, and it did state that the
last update was done at the time & date when it was done by me

Hope this helps

Took me about a dozen attempts to get the updates. Probably just a crowded
elevator.

I installed AVG about 2 weeks ago. I just updated it. In
Documents and Settings
Application Data
Grist
Avg7Data
avg7upd
backup
I have about 6.4MB of files. Can these be deleted.
Thanks
Stan

I'm using 7.0.289 and have never had a problem updating. Maybe
time-shifting would be the answer.
