The first time you install it, it works.
But when you reboot for the second time, you get an error during loading of
antivirus service ;-(((

It works for me.. try uninstalling then re-installing.. if that doesn't
work, try Avast 4..

IWhy should I re-installing for the second time???
My Vista Installation is clean.
I use the Standard account, NOT the administrator.

I might be wrong here but I believe he is asking you to uninstall and
reinstall AVG not Vista.

Why should I reinstall AVG? Things can't change because the program is the
same!
I also tried AVG4 with RC1/RC2 build and It had the same bug!

He suggested a reinstallation because yours does not work and that his does.
It is a good suggestion. If you don't want to, then don't. Perhaps you could
install it running as an admin.

I installed as admin, but I always use the Standard account!!!!

Mike I cannot seem to get my avg e-mail scanner working in vista. Avg
version 7.5431
Does yours certify your outgoing & incoming mail? Avg reports e-mail scanner
is fully functional, but it does not certify my e-mail as scanned. I have a
registered version of avg.

There is no need to use email scanning in an AV product. This can in fact
cause problems.

It is not unknown to have to re-install programs.. as good as AVG is, it
does not take much to upset it..

Your call entirely..

I installed as admin, but I always use the Standard account!!!!
It took me 3 installs of AVG before every thing worked right.
It would load and download updates BUT it always said they were out of
date (control panel and status line). When I ran Update, it would say
I had the latest. I can't remember what I did (not install as
administrator), but it started working (finally, after a cold boot)
completely.

I've had the same error, but I don't think it's the fault of AVG.

Oddly enough it only happens if I log in immediately after a reboot. I
found if I walk away to get a drink or something and come back to the
log on screen waiting for my password, it doesn't give me the error.
If I'm sitting here and restart, I find the drive is thrashing away at
the log on screen for about 20-30 seconds, loading Vista in the
background while it waits for my password. If I wait for the disk
activity to stop, AVG loads up just fine. If I don't wait, AVG fails.

It's as if Vista is starting some components too fast and AVG doesn't
get a chance to load the control center properly, likely due to one of
Vistas services not running yet.

I had a similar problem with a batch file I created to clean out junk
from a few temp folders. It's set up as a task to run when Vista
starts, however, it fails to run immediately after I log in, giving me
an error that the user is not logged in. Which is really weird since
the task is set to run only when I'm logged in and it can't run until
I'm logged in, so why is it saying I'm not logged in? Anyway, I
enabled the time delay option so it starts the task after five
minutes, and no more errors.

I don't know why Grisoft hasn't fixed this, but it's a known bug in
the installation. You need to enable the outbound SMTP server in AVG
under the Email scanner.

The problem is a very simple oversight with AVG setup. The outbound
email scanning feature in AVG is enabled by default, but the antivirus
server for outbound (SMTP) scanning is not active by default in the
free version. This is a setup configuration issue I've reported to AVG
and still has not been fixed in the newer 7.5 version. But what the
heck, it's free right?

:-)

All you have to do, if you want to keep email antivirus scanning, is
enable the server feature in AVG. To do this, open the AVG control
center, double-click the email scanner option, click the Properties
button, click the Servers tab, double-click the SMTP option in the
list, then check off the option at the bottom "Activate this
server...".

Click OK to save the change on your way out and Mail should work fine.
