account?

Hi SICYD,
Are you ready for this!!

1. Double click on the AVG icon at bottom right of your screen.

2. Double click on the 'E-Mail Scanner Box' at top, middle of the
screen.

3. Click on 'Properties'.

4. Click on 'Servers'.

5. Click on 'Add'.

6. Make sure 'POP 3' is displayed in the 'Server Type and Protocol'
Box.

7. Click on 'Connection'.

8. Place a check mark against 'Fixed Host'.

9. Type in the box beneath 'Fixed Host' the name of your mail server
(possibly and I am guessing mail.google.com).

10. Make a note of the 'Local Port (used in e-mail client)' number,
(probably four figures starting with 5), also the 'E-Mail Client POP3
Number' which should be 127.0.0.1

11. Make sure there is a tick in the 'Activate this server' Box.

12. 'OK', three times to clear.

13. Now go to the Google e-mailer, tools/accounts and open up an
account for yourself and when it comes to entering the name for your
'Incoming Mail Server' (Usually headed 'Server Name) enter the
127.0.0.1 number (this is where you would usually type eg:
mail.google.com). For the Server Port Number, change it from the
default (usually 110) to the 5*** noted previously.

14. If you are able to 'send' mail via Google's SMTP server, you will
need to go through a similar process up to and including clicking on
'Add' ( Step 5 above) but this time click on the right side of the
'Server Type and Protocol' box and select 'SMTP', then take it from
there.

If I have missed anything, please let me know and Good Luck.

Thank you, but before I post my message, I've tried this with mi Gmail
account and it don't works. To connect my OE to Gmail by POP3 and SMTP
(without AVG) I use respectively ports 465 and 995, with SSL connection. I
don't know where I must to enter these ports in the AVG configuration.

Regards.

Sorry about that. Just a thought but there is nothing to stop you
entering your port numbers in AVG by replacing the ones given you, to
see if that works. (Items 9 and 10 in my list).

I added in the email-scanner a new pop3 server:

Type of login: Fixed Host: pop.gmail.com:995
Connection: Secure to dedicated port (TSL)

In outlook2003 I added a new account in the usual way:

Putting the complete email in Logon Information ([email protected])
and 127.0.0.1 as pop3 server information.
In "more setting" > "advanced" I put as incoming server port number
the port avg scanner gave me, and I left unchecked SSL option.

I hope it'll work with others mail clients.
That's all.

Like you, I'm using Outlook Express. I have tried the other suggestions in
this thread, and some other variations, and cannot get it to work with
Outlook Express. My gmail account is polled OK in Outlook Express. But the
incoming pop gmail is not scanned for viruses - which I know, because it
does not include the usual certification insert.

I added in the email-scanner a new pop3 server:
I doubt whether anyone on this NG uses turnpike, but since migrating to
AVG 7, I've made no changes whatsoever and somehow all my mail is being
scanned - fantastic

Great! It works!
