Looks like the freeware version of AVG is being updated to 7.0. Grisoft has
a beta version available that appears to be a slightly stripped-down version
of 7.0 Pro, with improved scheduling and updater that can be set to run
later if the computer is off when the events are scheduled. Anyone tried it
out yet? It can be had at
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/16/lng/us/tpl/v5 . Would like to
hear comments.

thx

I didn't find any description of the AVG 7.0 Free Beta characteristics
on www.grisoft.com - is it compatible with WinXP x64?

Thanks, I have it now and will test it out...so far the only problem I am
having is making a rescue disk to a CD.

I've installed it without any problems. The email scanner actually works to
certify incoming/outgoing pop3/smtp email independent of the specific email
client! No more clumsy plugins. It monitors the ports for the connection
instead. It works fine with Outlook Express. I haven't tried to set it up to
scan http mail (such as hotmail in Outlook Express) or news messages and
don't know if that's possible.
