Nope. Paste this in a text file:
X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H
Don't add anything else to the file. Name the file "EICAR.COM"
(without quotes). Save to your harddrive. Right click on the file,
click "Scan with AVG." And/or double click the file. Or run a complete
test in AVG.

Have you tried with files .cmd, .html , .bin ...................and so on ?
It works only with .exe !

Except for the asterisk (*) that should be the last character.
(carriage return and line feed are still optional I think)
Should end up with 68 to 70 bytes file length.

I've already built these files, And AVG says "there is no virus" scanning
