AVG 6.0 virusscan program blocks wanted attachments

AVG 6.0 blocks all EXE, SCR, and EML attachments to name a few in
Outlook Express. Even after I shut the program down, they are still
blocked. It is a good program in other ways and don't want to remove
it, but I can't view lots of attachments that I want to view. Any
tricks around this?

What is the current status of the checkbox at:

Tools > Options > Security tab
[ ] Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could
potentially be a virus

If checked, OE won't open them. This is the Bill G. way to protect you
from yourself, and is changed to Checked by some Windows updates,
without asking you.

AVG doesn't block them. Outlook Express is set by default to block
them.
 
Yes! I unchecked to box and now I have freedom. I, myself, can
decide if and when to view EXE, SCR, EML files. Such freedom.

I think the change seemed to happen around the time I started using
AVG, so that's why I asked.

No, it was a Windows / OE update. In some internal groups I read, this
is one of the most-oft asked questions [1]. "Hey, ISP, why are you
not letting me see attachments?"

[1] After "Why is your service so slow?" "Remove the spyware."

You CAN have the security that Bill G. wanted to give you while still
getting attachments with the those file extensions. Tell the people who
send you such files to ZIP them first.
