My Averatec laptop just developed this problem and just the J,K and L
keys are affected. When I hit J it types as 1. K comes out as 2 and L
comes out as 3. I just installed Windows XP service pack 2, but I don't
know if that's relevant to the problem or not. I'll give the keyboard a
good cleaning and if nothing else buy an external keyboard. But I'd
still kinda like to know what the problem is. Thanks.

It sounds like you toggled the FN keys in some way to activate the number
keys. Refer to your laptop manual for the key press combination and toggle
back.

Thanks. I'll look into that.
