AVERAGE FUNCTION

I'm trying to acquire the average of a range of cells
which refer to a value from a cell on another worksheet
that contains both text and numbers. I have already
imported the number value required into the required cell
on a seperate worksheet, but can't get Excel to find the
average of these numbers in a range of up to 20 values.
I've tried just using the AVERAGE function and referring
to the cells on the worksheet containing just the number
value and I've tried using the average function referring
to the original worksheet using the same importation
formula in additional brackets. Can anyone help?
 
Try

=AVERAGE(--(Range_with_numbers))

if you have "extracted" the numbers from a text number combo
they are probably text

You can also copy and empty cell, select the numbers and do edit>paste
special, select add
