AVCHD from my canon HD camcorder can not read by Quicktime?

I have a Macbook and a Canon HFS100. I made recording of my birthday party via my Canon camcorder which produces the video file of AVCHD. I wanna to play play these video recordings on my Macbook via Quicktime Player, but these recordings can not be read by Quicktime.


I wonder AVCHD (.mts) can not be supported by Quicktime?

Do i have to convert MTS files into MOV? If so, what software should i use and where can i find it?
