Just a warning out there, dont know how common it is, but just had an update
of Avast (requiring a reboot) put Vista Premium into 'tamper mode'. ie wont
allow logon claiming certain security files mismatch.

Will allow safe mode access. Removed Avast, rebooted, fine, reinstalled
avast with update now ok....

As with all "updates" of any software, there's always the possibility of
something else breaking.

I don't have/know Vista (98SE, XP, Win7) or this "tamper mode", but had
the Avast Sandbox screw up horribly a few weeks ago after an update (XP
box). It would kick in on stuff that shouldn't have triggered it, and
wouldn't allow any choices in the dialog box.

Did the same remove/reinstall/update trick, now all fine.

It's just "the way things are" with pooters. M$ OSes seem to be the
worst on this , but the same crap has existed on all platforms and OSes
since the punch card and patch bay days.
