Avast found adware, can't remove.

All scans come up negative except for Avast (free). It finds a file
"C:/windows/system32/BAE.dll" and says it is "win32:adware-gen [Adw]"but I
can't figure out how to remove it. Within the program I keep getting an
error message "Access denied."

Thanks,
Ed

The file is a browser redirector, normally from a legitimate source such as
Dell and/or Google. The browser redirector bit is probably why Avast is
picking it up. I'd just tell Avast to ignore it. If you are really unsure,
send a copy of the file to Virus Total:

http://www.virustotal.com/

Look on Avast's site for where/how to submit a file that you think is a
false-positive, too. It would be worth sending it to them.

Thanks Malke, you're correct. Do you know why I couldn't delete it? That
really made me suspicious. Avast couldn't do it nor could I by hand. Even
tried in safe mode.

Most probably because it is a protected file and it is from Dell

Probably because it is in use. If you have a Dell, you can usually find it
in the Programs & Features Control Panel applet and it can be uninstalled
from there. Otherwise, I'd just leave it alone. If you really feel you want
to delete it, I'd do it from an elevated command prompt.

Thanks, all set.
