Avast AV Screen Saver

What is the purpose of Avast Screensaver.All it does is flash a blue banner
all over the screen.I've tried to delete it, but it just keeps coming back
after a re-boot.

Iirc, the avast screen saver is just running the avast scan program
while it is running. If you want to change it go to the display
properties tag for the screensaver, and you can get it to run any of the
other screensavers which it does an AV scan of your system.
