Greetings and salutations

Whilst I am well aware of the fact that MS AntiSpyware is
and will 'eventually' be a free download, naturally, under
certain terms and consitions, I would like to clear up a
simple matter. Will the Final Release be free to all
licensed users of Windows operating systems, or only to
users of Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) customers, as per
the following article: -

http://www.windowsitpro.com/Windows/Article/ArticleID/45442/Windows_45442..html

Presumably, the Final Release will be available to download
free of charge for ALL licensed users of Windows operating
systems??

TIA........

Well, how Paul Thurrot manages to read either what Bill Gates actually said
(I listened to the webcast), or the transcript of that speech (which is
available--you can all read it yourselves)--or in the press release related
to the speech, I don't know.

In the absence of a clear statement from Microsoft we can't answer this one.
My own speculation is that it will be available to the same set of customers
that the current beta is available to--but directly linked to having a valid
Windows license. (i.e. Windows 2000, Windows XP SP2, and Windows server
2003 customers.)

Paul Thurrot is certainly more of an insder than I am, and he may well have
better inside information.

In regards to Internet Explorer version 7, that is what was stated--Windows
XP Service Pack 2. So--perhaps there's a mixup, or, perhaps there will be a
common validation enforcement program--the press release terms this "the
Windows value proposition." I haven't seen this term defined in more detail
than just that phrase so far.

I've misstated a detail here: Here are the system requirements for the
current beta:

Minimum system requirements for Windows AntiSpyware (Beta):
. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher

. A 300 MHz or faster processor with at least 64 MB of RAM

. Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows ServerT 2003

. At least 10 MB of available free space on your hard disk

. Internet access with at least a 28.8 Kbps connection to use SpyNetT

I would expect the final product to be available for a similar set, but
there may be some detail changes--an SP level requirement, for instance.

Based on what I have read, I think it will be for persons with valid
licenses under the Genuine Advantage program.
