av software recommendation

sorry if this appears in the faq - if it does, could you point me there?

otherwise, do you have a recommendation for the best of the free
anti-virus software? or any reasons for using an expensive one (not
Norton, please. I quite like MacAfee, but am not sure if it's really
significantly better than any of the free ones. I don't run OE, btw.

McAfee is significantly better than most if not all of your free AV
scanners. However, unless you're a high risk user any of the free ones
should suffice as most if not all of them detect all of the ITW
viruses.
