AV personal Edition Classic V7 clogs PC - Alternatives?

Hi,

Updates have just installed Version 7 of the software and my PC ground
to a halt. (Toshiba Qosmio G20).

Eventually I managed to uninstall Version 7, and things are back to
normal speed.

Any suggestions as to the best alternative AV software packages?

I have a small file of three complaints about AntiVir 7 slowing
their computers to a crawl. Each had a response from a user who
were having no problems at all. Another had their system so
hosed they could not get back into windows even in safe mode.

Some reverted to V6 to fix their problem and others moved on to
other AVs.

is discussing various problems.

Avast works nicely for most users, but again not in every case.

AVG also has many fans. Both are free, have you tried those?
