I've got an old laptop I mainly use for downloads. It has AVG7 on it but
Grisoft has discontinued updates for that version. The newer version
doesn't run in Win ME. What free AV would be recommended for a Win ME
system? Thanks.

Avira for now.

Norton AntiVirus 2002. Doesn't require registering. Can be updated to
current virus definitions and scan engine with intelligent updater.
Should be available via torrent. No hacks or keygens required.

Symantec Corporate Antivirus (version 9?) will also run on 9x/me.

You can repartition the new machine, or add a second HD, and install
Win7 RC on a fresh partition. Make it your default boot OS. Etc.

I know, but thank you for the reminder.
The hardware of the new PC should be sufficient for Windows 7.

(reading you also in model trains - de + us)
;-)

I have the Norton 2000 AV disk. Will that suffice or do I need an updater
and what is torrent?
Thank you.

They're suggesting you pirate the AV software using bittorrent. If you
just want a free AV that works with ME and is generally well-regarded then
you can go download Avast! Home Edition. www.avast.com

No, don't bother with NAV 2000. The intelligent updater won't work with
it. And maybe not even for NAV 2001 either.
and what is torrent?

Hmmmmmm....

And so, unlike Wolf, you're telling me that the NAV2000 disc
is good for nothing regarding Win Me?

Unlike Wolf?

Where did Wolf say that NAV 2000 was good for something? He didn't
mention NAV 2000 as far as I can see.

And yes, I am telling you that your NAV 2000 disk is worth crap because
you won't be able to obtain virus definition updates for it. You can
for NAV 2002.

And don't bother with Symantec corporate V7 either. It's outdated too.

There is nothing useful on the page that Wolf posted.

If you can find Symantec Corporate V9, then that will also work on win
9x (and it's still supported).
