What would cause the AutoText Field entries to show as
formatting codes (boxes & text - as if you tried to open a
Word 6.0 doc in the 2.0 version of Word). Word 2000 was re-
installed, and same problem. Also - how to you reinstate
one of the options that was accidently deleted (Filename
and Path)? Thank you for your help.

If the AutoText entry contains a field and you're currently displaying field
codes, then that's what you see. Press Alt-F9. Field code/field result
displau is a persistent setting, so reinstalling Word won't change it. (But
Alt-F9 will - Word remembers the setting used when last Word was closed.)

Not sure what option you mean by Filename and Path. If you're referring to a
menu option, right click any toolbar, select Customize, right-click the
menu, select Reset.

Field Codes do not appear to be causing this. When you
preview each AutoText entry, you see garbage (boxes,
punctuation & characters). Unfortunately, I can't include
a screen print of the characters. It's the list of
AutoText fields that appears to be corrupted. If you go
to Insert / AutoText to get the AutoText dialog box, when
you click on any of the options listed, you see this
garbage in the preview window. This is where the Filename
and Path option should be listed, and has accidently been
deleted. I was unable to reset the AutoText list using
the Customize, Reset command. Thank you for your help.

It sounds as though your normal.dot template is corrupt. Locate and rename
it oldnormal.dot
