Autostreamer

I used Autostreamer to attempt to slipstream SP3 to a WinXP CD? (my current
CD is WinXPSP2).

The WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe is shown in Autostreamer as "file
unknown" and, therefore, not able to be slipstreamed.

I should have added:
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?
(Perhaps I need nLite?)

It appears to be working for me. Autostreamer recognised the SP3 file no problems.

Yep, I'm going to put SP3 in the good ole way. Then use nlite to add
my Dell drivers and a few tweaks. Oh, and IE7 and 3 IE7 updates.
I'm skipping WMP11.

Other than that, its a no brainer. Not sure about reloading the whole
dang machine to test the slipstream. Might image the drive then test.
I guess I can't loose too much with that...

I usually have a bunch of spare drives around from machines I've upgraded...
Nothing like having a good cloned drive at your disposal.
New drives are so cheap now days...It's a very good insurance policy!

I just slipstreamed SP3 that way and it worked fine

I got the final version a few days early from majorgeeks

Although Majorgeeks is usually a reliable source of downloads, I
personally think it's foolhardy to download a Microsoft service pack
from them. The risk of its not being the same as what Microsoft gives
you is probably small, but it's not zero.

It will officially be available in just a few days. There's no
compelling reason to rush it, and I advise others to wait for the
official release rather than do this.

Thanks Big Al and philo for the help.
I am, obviously, a newbie on slipstreaming.
(I just downloaded Autostreamer three days ago and tried it out by
slipstreaming a Win2k CD to SP4 - it worked great.) It enabled me to buy the
Vista Academic Home Premium upgrade for $68.30 delivered.

And thanks to Ken Blake for the warning.
BTW, Ken, I have an Asus T2 Terminator.
I converted the top drive bay to a removable drive rack.

So I use a 40gb hard drive for all my "experiments" , an 80gb hard drive for
my WinXP, and another 80gb hard drive for my newly-purchased Vista Home
Premium.

Taurian, I can't figure out why it worked for you and not for me. I've
tried twice to slipstream SP3 using Autostreamer.

I just bought

Exactly. Please do not download updates from non-Microsoft sites if
they have not yet been officially released. Wait until the 29th. It
will be here soon enough.

I just did it and can confirm that it worked fine. It will only show up
with the build number but it will still use it. Make sure that your
download is not corrupted.
