Autostarting DVD's

I don't know if this is the appropriate forum, but here goes with my problem.

I have never been able to get a DVD to autoplay immediately I load it into
the drive as I have not been able to see my DVD player (Power DVD) in the
list of available software. I have now compounded the problem by associating
Windows Media Player with a DVD, and now ever time I load a DVD it starts WMP
which immediately crashes.

How do I disconnect the association established between WMP and DVD's and
how do I get them to plkay on Power DVD.

thanks in advance for your help.

Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types and change the association from
WMP to Power DVD.

Hi, I was thinking about your PowerDVD player not being in your program
listing.
Here is another way to accomplish that; just put an icon to open it on your
desktop.
If you right click on an open area on your desktop....then you can choose
'new' and then 'shortcut'.....that will open up a window and you can browse
to find the program....click on 'browse' and then (if you have the default
file location) choose 'my computer'.....then your 'Local disk (c)' (the C
drive).....then 'program files'. In your program files you should have a
folder called 'cyberlink' (company name)....click on that....and then on the
folder 'powerdvd'. A list of all the files which make up the program will
then show....scroll down until you find the program file....it will be the
one called 'PowerDVD' and will have a brightly colored icon denoting the
program.
Then click on OK and next and finish.....you will then have an icon on your
desktop to open up PowerDVD whenever you want to use it. Good luck!

Thanks for help so far.

Jerry, I have associated VOB with powerDVD and if I click on a VOB file it
plays correctly. What I want to do is make the original load, (when I insert
a DVD into the drive) to execute PowerDVD and not WMP.

dickmr, I have an Icon that allows me to ececute Power DVD, or drag and drop
a VOB onto the icon.

I have discovered another factor. If I have PowerDVD executing when I insert
a DVD into the drive, WMP is autostarted, and immediately crashes, but when I
close WMP the DVD is correctly executing in PowerDVD, so some file
association is working, I just need to disconnect the autostart association
between a DVD disc (not a VOB file) and WMP, there must be a way to break
this connection.

Thanks again for help so far

Thanks John,
I did not have WMP on full screen so did not see the tools button. I do feel
a fool for wasting peoples time.
Thanks again from a very humbled WR

Advice to anyone else with problems in this area:
Found the correct solution by digging deeply in FAQ for WMP:
Double click My Computer
Right click the DVD drive and select Properties
Select Autoplay tab and change the settings there
So the solution is not to maniplulate the file types etc., but to go for the
physical device
Thanks to all the members who help on this problem
