I have an autoshape in light blue; pasted it in several slides and added
text. Every other slide prints the light blue; other slides come out pale
green. What's with that?

Colors in PPT can be assigned in two ways, generally. They can be "scheme"
colors like the ones you get from the paintbucket fill tool on the drawing
toolbar, top row or they can be specific RGB colors (as in the "other colors"
dialog).

Scheme colors aren't really colors at all. They're just numbers. When PPT
displays the object, it gets the number, looks it up in a table (the color
scheme) and the scheme tells it what color to make the object.

Each slide can have its own color scheme.

Sounds like you've got shapes that are assigned a scheme color, and the scheme
changes from slide to slide.

If you want to lock in a specific color, choose the shape then use the Fill
Colors tool (paint bucket on drawing toolbar) to assign a color from the More
Fill Colors collection. Those will stay put no matter what happens to the
scheme.
