Autoscroll Too Fast

I recently upgraded my mother board and installed windows
XP. I have tried my PS/2 Microsoft Wheel mouse 3.0 and a
Micro-Inovations 5 buttton wireless optical wheel mouse.
The Autoscroll used to work just fine when I was running
Windows 98SE. Now it runs very fast. Way to fast to be
useful in reading.
 
In control panel, go to the mouse icon, double-click it and on the wheel
tab, you can change the number of lines it scrolls at a time.

I know how to do that. It is the AUTO scroll function
that runs too fast. When I click the wheel button and
then move the mouse itself just enough to start scrolling,
it scrolls a whole page in about a second and a half. I
used to be able to autoscroll slowly enough that it would
only scroll one line about every 4 or 5 seconds (when I
was running 98SE.
 
You're moving your cursor to far off the target. The further you move it,
the faster it goes.

You are not reading my posts carefully enough. I know how
to auto scroll, I know all about how far or little to move
the mouse off of the target. The slightest movement from
off of the target(that used to give me good results before
the computer upgrade) now causes a far too rapid
scrolling. The problem is not my technique. There is a
glitch somewhere in the software.

Intellipoint 5, which I installed even though I don't have an
Intellipoint mouse, has a Scrolling tab with the slow/fast slider.
Interestingly, my brain is still too slow for the slow speed, but it
does work with my mouse.

Please read more carefully. The problem is AUTOSCROLL.
The setting that you are reffering to effects the number
of lines per click of rotation of the wheel. The problem
that I am having is when I use the wheel BUTTON. The
slightest movement of the mouse from software generated
target causes the screen to scroll unusually fast.

How about you read the post. This is the autoscroll setting in
Intellimouse. If I were writing about the wheel scroll setting I would
have written about the wheel scroll setting. If you want some F*cking
help, try reading the message. Freaking ingrate!

It's happening to me too. 2 machines: Home, brand-new HP a420e, XP with
latest updates and security. Dialup.
Work, Compaq something-or-other, T1, 2000 Professional.

Only two similarities: Trackball Explorer and Natural Keyboard Elite.

I DL'd the latest driver for the mouse, version 5.0. Same deal. At least I
was able to disable vertical scrolling, but that's not a solution...
