Autosave function

How do I get the AutoSave function to retain my settings?
Even though I have downloaded all of the patches to date,
everytime I close the program it still resets itself to
the default settings.
 
Autosave saves the workbooks, not settings in the program.

What settings are you trying to 'save'?

and manually set the AutoSave functions such
as: "automatic save every_ minutes", "save all open
workbooks", & deselect the "prompt before saving"; the
program functions as directed.

However when I close the program and reopen it, the
AutoSave functions are always reset to the default
position.

How do I make the program function, so that I do not need
to reset the AutoSave settings EVERY time I open the
program?

Rephrased - How do I make Excel reset the default function
for the Auto Save setting I want it to automatically
employ every time I use the program?

I have tried to get into the AutoSave.xls (AutoSave.xla)
macro, but it is password protected.
 
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem
below with the autosave. What is the solution to this
problem? Does anyone know? I use excel 2000.
