I had to do a System Restore the other day due to a
problem of updating my sound card drivers. Everything
appears to work well but now my CD and DVD drives do not
autoplay when I insert a disk. I've checked the obvious
and verified the options. Even followed the regedit tip
(except the one that indicated to change a hex value to 91
because it didn't seem to follow correctly). My question
is should I remove XP SP1 and re-install it? If I remove
SP1 will I cause more problems? Thanks for any tips or
responses. Bill.

Thanks. I have already seen these tips. That is were my
reference to the hex 91 in my original message comes from.
The tip says:

~Make sure that the AutoPlay feature is enabled in the
registry:
~Click Start, and then click Run.
~Type regedit, and then click OK.
~In Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:

~HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom

~In the right pane, go to step g if the value for Autorun
is 1.
~If the value for Autorun is 0, right-click Autorun, and
then click Modify.
~In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 under Value
data, and then click OK.
~A value of 0xb5 in the following registry key turns off
the AutoRun feature for CDs:

~HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutoRun

~You must set the hexadecimal value to 91 to enable the
AutoRun feature.
~On the File menu, click Exit.

The first step ws set for "0" and I reset it to "1". But
the value in the second set in my registry was "5f 00 00
00". I am not sure how to set it to "91" as stated above.
When I hit Modify there was no hexadecimal value setting
to change. So I'm not sure how ot fix that.

As for the the secound article.... I am logged in as an
Administrator.

Any other tips?

Thanks.

Bill.
