Automating Restore Point Creation

Hi, hope somebody can help

I've recently been asked to look into recovery scenarios for XP when we eventually upgrade from NT. At present, we schedule rdisk.exe to run on a weekly basis so that when we get the dreaded BSOD, we can sometimes recover the machine. Now, with the introduction of System Restore in XP, I'm assuming this sort procedure would not be necessary. I understand that the system generates a restore point when a significant change occurs (software installation etc) or if the machine has been left on for more than 24 hours. The majority of our PC's would be turned off at the end of the day, so my question is, how do I make the PC generate a restore point at a regular interval (to be decided when and if it is possible) without the GUI being displayed

I suppose I would like to know if the same can be done with the Backup utility too for Documents and Settings maybe

Thanks in advanc

Julie

System Restore and Ntbackup have limited capabilities that are sufficient
for many home users, but they are clearly not intended to be complete
solutions, particularly for corporate or other mission-critical scenarios.
You need commercial backup and recovery software.

Hi Tom, thanks for the reply

We do have backup and recovery software for our critical machines, this is simply a solution to the 80+ user machines that we don't have the ability to backup ... regular creation of the files provided by the rdisk utility has avoided the need to rebuild PC's in the event of registry or sam corruption. I was after some guidance for a possible solution with XP. Can the machine be instructed to create a restore point at every bootup

Thanks again

Julie
