On older versions of windows my computer would be turned off after windows
shut down. Now I get a blue screen error message and must manually turn off
the computer. Is there a setting to have it turn off automatically?

You need to resolve the issue causing the blue screen.

Once you do this, the computer will then turn itself off when you shut it
down.

On the blue screen, make note of the error code. That will give you a clue
as to what you need to fix.

You are worried about the computer not turning off automatically but you are
NOT worried about why the computer crashes when you go to shut it down?

If you knew as much as you thought you know,
You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew!

You are driving down the road at 60 MPH and your engine falls out of the car.
Do you complain about the noise it made, or the fact that your vehicle is
ruined.

Your computer is crashing idiot. It's about as serious a problem as you can
get without it catching on fire.

Wake up and learn about your computer. May I suggest the book "Computers for
Dummies" (really big dummies - huge dummies)!

Hmm... do I smell an MVP nomination?

Why does Falcon need to insult those with less knowledge than himself? I am
a casual computer user who relies heavily on the very helpful advice that
individuals offer through these NGs.

As for the Blue Screen - I would search Google for the exact error code.

first, diagnose the problem of what's causing the blue screen error! Then
worry about why the machine doesn't turn off automatically.
