There is one feature in windows 2000 server which is
the "automatically logoff when user logon hours expires",
well, i set the logon hours for a particular user and
enabled the mentioned feature, but when the user's logon
hour expires, nothing happens on the client, does anyone
know why?

there is one website which asked us to set using the
command line using the "net accounts /forcelogoff
:minutes /domain" i did that also but nothing works,
please advise

When setting the Group Policy for the setting:

"Automatically log off user when logon time expires" (this should be
enabled)

you need to make sure that you have limited the number of hours that
the particular user is allowed to be connected (which it seems that
you have done) and you need to make sure that the time is
synchronized on the client and all domain controllers.

You should check to make sure that the policy is indeed applying to
the client by running a GPresult. The procedure is detailed in this
article:

321709 HOW TO: Use the Group Policy Results Tool in Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=321709

The problem might be that the policy isn't applying correctly. If
that's the case there could be a DNS issue.

The command you are using is also detailed on this website:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/pro
dtechnol/windowsserver2003/proddocs/entserver/net_accounts.asp

The command sets the number of minutes a user has before being forced
to log off when the account expires or valid logon hours expire.

What exactly do you mean by "if users log off they can't get back on,
but are never logged off."

If a user logs off are you seeing somewhere that they are not logged
off?
