We have an XP machine connected to our network printer that we have
automatically log itself on to our domain.

How would I set it so that it will automatically lock the desktop once it
has finished logging in?

Thanks.

You can password protect the screensaver and set it to come on after 1 minute
of inactivity.

Why do you need the machine to be logged in at all, if all it's doing
is acting as a printer server? It's completely unnecessary, you know.

Anyway, simply create a shortcut with "%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe
user32.dll, LockWorkStation" in the
target field. (It is case-sensitive, BTW.) Then place this shortcut in
the appropriate Startup folder.

Ah yes, should have thought of that!

Thanks.

I may be making assumptions of course, but just out of curiosity, does
this machine do anything other than act as a print server..? If not why
not just use a standalone print server rather than waste a PC..? It would
be cheaper and far more reliable..!

Why not just use a print server box..?
