Automatically highlight first entry in Contacts

In years past, I recall seeing a contact with a blue highlight in the name
and company name. This allowed me to type a few letters of the person's name
that I'm looking for. Nowadays, I have to click the mouse within that area to
cause the contact to become blue, and then I can type in a few letters. Has
anyone found a solution to this... it would make finding my contacts so much
faster.

Thanks.

Outlook 2003, SP1 (Teacher's & Student's Version). When you first click to
open Contacts, all the entry names and companies are in a grey highlight. It
used to be that the first listing would be in a blue highlight wherein you
could type in a few letters (such as 'sp' which would automatically take you
to the listing for someone with the last name 'Spaulding'). Now, all of them
are in grey which requires you to left-click on any contact listing to make
it turn blue, THEN you can type in the 'sp' etc. It was a lot faster to go
directly to a contact when any one listing already had the automatic blue
highlight. Thanks.

Doesn't anyone have an answer to this issue? I have the same exact problem.
However, I have two computers, both running Office 2003 SP1. On one machine,
the problem is there; on the other machine, no problem. The settings seem
exactly the same. Help!
