Automatically enter current date in cell.

Hello,

I have a column in my spreadsheet, which should always have current
date mentioned in it.

When a user adds a new row to a spreadsheet, I want current-date
(MM/DD/YYYY) to be automatically entered in the cell, just by tabbing
over the cell.

In general, how can we specify default values for a column (i mean,
values which EXCEL will automatically generate if user chooses not to
update the cell)
