Outlook Express allows me to choose to automatically put people I reply to in
my Address Book. I cannot find any such option in Outlook. Manual entry is
tedious. I want automatic. If Outlook is supposed to be better than Outlook
Express, why is this feature missing?

Outlook is not supposed to be better than OE - it's designed for different
needs by a different product group.

To get that feature in outlook you need to use a 3rd party utility -
mapilabs.com has one as do others - see
http://www.slipstick.com/addins/contacts.htm for a list. Some of the addins
allow you to configure rules so you can better control who gets added to
your contacts list.

Collecting addresses automatically really does nothing more than fill up the
address book with addresses you'll never use again when you handle a lot of
mail, as many businesses do. Right clicking on the address and adding it to
contacts takes just seconds and allows you to control who is added to your
contacts list.

It also creates more spam - an unbelievable number of people I never heard
of added my address to their address book and if they are infected with a
virus, I get copies of it from them - if they use plaxo or a similar
service, i get messages requesting I update my address.
