When running several windows at the same time, the top most window can change
to another that has just finished loading a page. Is there any way to
prevent this from happening?

Hi,
the "Prevent applications from stealing focus" feature of TweakUI may help.

TweakUI for Windows 98, ME, 2000
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/powertoys/networking/nttweakui.asp

TweakUI for XP:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

For XP, the VBS script at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
(Line #66 right-side) makes the same registry edit as TweakUI for XP.

If these tweaks don't help (they're not 100% reliable) minimizing other
windows should keep them out of sight.

Hope this helps,

Hi Don,

Thanks for the suggestions. You're right about TweakUI's setting not being
100% reliable. With ie7, it simply doesn't work at all. If I am loading a
page that takes a long time to load, I'd like to be able to switch to some
other task while it loads, however once the page finishes, ie7 steals focus
and any typing I may be in the middle of is lost or misdirected into the page
ie7 puts focus into. Minimizing won't help if what I've switched to is
another tab in the same ie7 window. What we need is a setting in ie7 that
works like the TweakUI setting is supposed to, or an update to TweakUI that
overrides ie7s obnoxious misbehavior.

By the way, before I used TweakUI to block focus stealing, I can't tell you
how many Outlook reminders I accidentally dismissed never to be seen again
when the reminders popped up while I was typing something else. At least
TweakUI has reliably fixed that annoying problem.

Please give examples of this ridiculous overgeneralization.
Perhaps there may be a few instances of web pages
with certain implementations which do still steal focus
but I don't have any examples any more. For the most part
TweakUI's flash...until option works well. In some cases
this has meant that I do have to attend to the interrupt anyway
in order to get the Taskbar to hide again but it is much less
disruptive.

Aha. Now even you have contradicted your earlier statement. ; )
Post some examples and then we'll know better what can or
can't be hidden using TweakUI. BTW the same request was made
in your later post in the other newsgroup.
