We are moving to the XP Pro desktop and I am having
problems with the automatic updates that need to be done
because of security flaws. We cannot have the updates run
all at once / randomly because our Pc's use network apps,
and it does not work when telling users to stay off the PC
at 9am every thursday etc... Not to mention that this type
of thing should never need to happen anyway. What does
everyone else do out there? With all the virusus that are
attacking this O/S, I can't imagine nothing.

Do they download the oatches and post on intranet / tell
users get out of apps and hit that address?

Can someone shed some light on this for me.

In control panel, open "system" and select the "Automatic
Updates" tab. Uncheck the top check box. This will
prevent windows from updating automaticaly. You will need
to update windows manually, open internet explorer,
tools, select windows update.

Tx for the post back Adam, but what I am wondering is
how do you stop the "Going out to the internet and getting
the updates"? We will have 1000 Pc's by the end of the
project, and I don't want every pc travelling out to the
internet to get updates.

What are people doing about this?

Toby;
Uncheck the box and the computer no longer looks for updates.
Updating is completely manual and nothing will be done until the user
says so once the box is unchecked.
