Automatic Updates Running Slow

HI I just installed the Windows XP HOme Edition this past
weekend. Just last night it is doing the automatic
updates,,, but moving at an incredibly slow speed,, as of
this morning it is only at 21% finished. Anything I can
do to speed the automatic updates up. Thank you.

My system seems to perform well EXCEPT when running
automatic updates including MicroSoft Windows updates and
AdAware updates. For instance, yesterday I updated all XP
critical updates plus something with a name ending
with "9", I think flash player version 9. All from
MicroSoft site update page links. This took from 10 AM
and wasn't done at 2 AM on the version 9 update. When I
opened it about 8 AM, it said it was ready to be
restarted one more time and it was done. That last update
version 9 took over 14 hours by itself. AdAware updates
can go for 6 hours and not be done. I usually manually
update those files and install them which goes at normal
speeds. These problems seem to be confined to automated
updates. Virus clean. AdAware cleaned. Cable Modem. Any
suggestions?
