I'm REALLY tired of this. Every automatic update changes my resolution to 800x600. Not only do I have to reset it but it changes all my standard keep-open apps that are sized and positioned as I want them. So I have to resize them all as well. Is ther ANY way to avoid this? I think it's incredibly RUDE!

Thanks,
Sheila

OH yeah...AND it rearranes all my icons that are NOT setup to autoarrange!

If your resolution changes, of course the icons will move; the won't ft in
the same area as they are bigger.

Have you ever updated, or installed a Driver for your Graphics Card?
Go to your Computer Manufacturer or Motherboard or Graphics Card's
Manufacturer's website, and download and install the correct, Vista
compatible Driver for your Graphics Card, or onboard Graphics.

You are running a thing called a VGA Resolution, which is the default
resolution of Windows.

What resolution were you running and what is your computers Graphics Card
specs?

Mick:
I'm running Vista Biz (auto updated) and have an NVIDIA card GForce 8500GT
with installed control panel (v 1.4.310.02), set at 1680x1050 to match my
LCD monitor's optimal resolution setting. My monitor is an HPf2105. Driver
is 7.15.11.6230 dated 8/27/2007. I'm searching for an updated driver now.
Hopefully that'll do it.

THANKS!
Sheila

The windows online search says I have the most recent drivers. I searched
myself at NVIDIA and there is a driver that is 4 months newer. I suppose I
should try it. Odd that windows thinks I have the newest. I wonder if that
old a driver will make any difference?

Yes, use the driver you found. As a general rule you should always update
drivers from the manufacturer or your OEM, not Windows.

Me too! I don't know if automatic updates are doing it or what, but in
the past couple of weeks I've been getting this behavior about half the
time when i wake up the computer from dozing (i.e. full power to the
CPU, but the display has shut down). And it won't let me reset it. It
lets me tell it to set it to the native 1920x1200 resolution of the
monitor and video card, but when I say ok and it does the preview, it's
still 800x600. Extremely irritating! A reboot usually resolves it, but
often I'm in the middle of a long upload and cannot reboot. All I
wanted to do was check the status of the upload, and maybe do some more
work, which I can't. I found this and have tried it, but will have to
wait for my upload to finish before I know if it works on my desktop. I
had noticed the video driver seemed to think I had two screens. from:
'Dell notebook, Vista, and Screen Resolution | Ask Metafilter'
The actual culprit is TMM, Vista's process that looks for multiple
monitors and attempts to intelligently modify resolution. If you aren't
using multiple monitors, you can disable TMM: 1. right-click on
'computer' and select 'manage' 2. on the left pane, expand 'task
scheduler' then ' task scheduler library' then 'Microsoft' then
'Windows' then 'MobilePC' 3. select TMM in the center pane, then on the
right pane, choose 'disable' Now you should be able to close your
laptop, let it go to sleep and when it wakes up it will still be in your
preferred resolution (also, the screen won't go blank for a second right
after waking up)

If you are using Adobe Reader, in Windows Explorer drill down in the Program
Files to the AcroRd32.exe Right-click on the exe file, choose properties and
Click on the Compatibility tab. Uncheck the box under Settings at "Run in
640 X 480 screen resolution.
