Automatic update is being controlled by the network administrator

I have been trying to turn on Automatic Update (pre SP2) but the options are
grayed out on the config screen. I ran a security check from the Microsoft
site and it said that my Automatic Update is being controlled by the network
adfministrator. That's interesting seeing as how I'm on a standalone machine
at home.

I had a nasty virus a while back and I had to remove it manually with some
registry edits. I may have screwed AU up at that time.

Now I need to know how to change Auto Upd back to local machine control.

Thanks in advance for any help

Try this:

Go to Start > Run and type: SERVICES.MSC , and hit enter.
Scroll down to "Automatic Updates", right-click on it and select Properties,
set the Startup type to Automatic, then click on Start.
