I'm sorry but can anyone help? I know that turning on Automatic Update
crashes my PC after about 15 seconds. When I reboot I go into safe mode,
turn off automatic update, and in normal mode my pc runs fine, except i have
a nice little red shield icon in the bottom right hand corner telling me that
automatic update is turned off. How can I get automatic update AND my PC to
work at the same time?

I'm running XP home with sp2.

Figure out what's wrong with it; a repair install might help unless
you're full of malware.

Nope, I've got several malware checkers, and also reloaded windows xp after
reformatting hard disc, and it crashes if automatic update is turned on.
Anyother ideas, anyone?

Are you on SP1 or SP2 ?
