Automatic trendlines

If I inputted a series of values in a bar / column chart each month,
how could I program PowerPoint to automatically create a trendline, to
calculate the total monthly values in the same chart?

Any ideas, anyone?

With gratitude,

Sean.

While PowerPoint is the industry standard presentation software, it isn't
the best at statistics. Luckily, it's cousin, Excel, is.

Your options would be to:
1) Build a custom Macro to get the data, teach it how to do the stats you
want, and display the result.

2) Transfer your data to an Excel spreadsheet, have it do what it does best,
and link to the resultant graphs, charts and data.

I would strongly recommend option 2.

Hey B! That's a mighty impressive signature ya got there. My hearty
congratualtions on the addition. Very well deserved, and about time! ;-)))

Does this mean I will get to meet you in person here in San Diego this
October?

For more on how to create charts that adapta to new data check the
Excel/Tutorials/Dynamic Charts page of my web site.

If you have the trendline established for a particular series, XL will
automatically adjust the trendline as data are added to the series.
