If the word microsoft appears in the same column and below the cell I
am editing then Excel sometimes suggests microsoft in the edit bar
after I type m or mi. I can then hit enter and microsoft is put in the
cell. Microsoft must be below the cell being worked on and not above
it.

My questions are:

1. what is this called? I don't know what to look for in Help.

2. this doesn't always work and typing mi in some worksheets just
gives mi.

3. how can I make this work when microsoft is above the cell being
edited.

I have Excel 97.

It's called "autocomplete" and only works for cells at the end of a
continuous "data region". See Help's "Microsoft Excel doesn't always
display the AutoComplete list" for more details.

Tks for the help, JE.
