Automatic Shut down.... What's up

I have received an automatic shutdown... blue screen then " a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage".... etc.... I called Toshiba... they were weak...no help.... saying it is a software problem ...call microsoft...

here I am... can anybody tell me what's up? what to do next?
have installed new applications and cannot figure out which it is...

I have a toshiba tecra s1 laptop...

Start/run eventvwr.msc, check the system and application logs for clues.

although most of the time this is due to bad drivers or hardware some applications have done that to me 2 oh well i wouldn't worry about it unless it happens constantily and if it only happens when you open a certain application contact the tech support for that application
