I use Outlook 2002 on XPpro. Manual Send/Receive works
fine. Automatic receive does not work. Receive on start
does not work. Immediate send (checked) does not work.
Send on exit does not work. I have verified all the
settings I can find and have all current updates
installed. Outlook Express with similar settings and the
same email account works fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Changed it from 5 min to 1 min, but no effect on either
setting. Since my first post, I have run Office repair
from the installation CD. This did not fix the problem.

I just have to ask...why is setting to one minute ..."just asking for
trouble..."? I have used that setting, in various Outlook versions, for
YEARS w/o issue or "trouble." The only problem I ever faced was
pre-broadband connection as it could really slow other access down.

Now that I am typing I guess in a typical in-house Exchange environment if
all users set to such a freqency of updating then they mught just croak the
server...but, for any other issue involving a web based (or even a sooped up
in-house) email server then i see no reason to say one minute is
unreasonable. There are many reasons to check with such frequency,
especially if the emails are time sensitive or you get high volumes of
messages...

Just curious is all... :)

It can easily result in conflicting polling requests if, for example, you
are still downloading a large message when your next polling interval is
reached. It's just unnecessary overhead both for the client and the server.

I followed the instructions on both support memos.
Disable send receive was not checked, but I cycled the
option anyway. I changed the auto update to 20 min (I
set it to 1 min to just test the feature without waiting
so long).

Still no change on the any of the send/receive problems.

What connection type have you set for your mail accounts(s)? Did you create
a new Send/Receive group from scratch and make sure you aren't inadvertently
set to work offline? If so, then creating a new profile would be the next
step to ensure you don't have a corrupt mail account setting.

Russ-

Your offline aside made me wonder if I had been missing
something. I had checked everything I could think of
plus the suggestions you had made. These were all under
the Tools menu. I never use the offline option but I
remembered encountering an error a while ago when I was
asked if I wanted to work off line and I wondered if I
might have accidently selected it. So I checked Help and
located the offline option under the File menu and sure
enough it was checked. Deselecting this option appears
to have corrected the problem.

I appreciate your perserverance in helping me remedy the
problem. It was a simple fix but it was located in an
area I never use.

Thanks.

Bill

I should have thought of it sooner. It's easy to select it by mistake when
you exit the program because it's right above File > Exit.
