When my computer had Win98SE it would automatically power
down the entire computer (except monitor) when I would use
the "Turm off computer" selection. I just updated to XP
and now I get the screen "It is now safe to turn off your
computer" and I have to manually shut it down. How do I
change it so it automatically shuts down the computer?

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Power
Options.
Click the APM tab.
Check to select the Enable Advanced Power Management Support check box, and
then click OK.

If this does not help, it is possible that the standard computer HAL is
loaded while installing XP. So, the computer does not turn off. To, solve
this run a repair installation of Windows XP.
