Hello, can I switch off the feature which allows websites to open other
browser windows in IE6? If so, how?

There are some websites that just open 5 or 6 other browser windows whenever
you try to leave the site.

What other functionality would I lose if I did switch this off?

This can be done using any third-party pop-up killers.
You can also disable "Active Scripting" in Ie 6.0 to prevent pop-ups.

Hi,

While most active content contained in Web pages is safe, some Web pages contain active content that can potentially cause security problems on your computer. For example, an ActiveX control that runs automatically when you load a particular Web page might damage your data or cause your computer to become infected with a virus

AFAIK, this setting enables/disables running scripts in IE

Enabling the option will affect internet browsing .So, add the subject website in restricted Sites list and then enable Active Scripting for the restricted Zone. By doing this, other websites are not affected.
