Herb,

Thanks for the response...the suggestion that I change
the Track Changes setting would probably work but the
menu option for that is "greyed out". I can't access it
in the existing documents.

If I open a new Word window the option is available.

I've cut and paste the information into a new MS Word
window (this document is an email from Outlook that is
modified every 12 hours with updates and sent out again)
to see if that works. Any other assistance you could
give on why this happened and why the Track Changes
option was greyed out would be appreciated.

AS a post script, cutting and pasting didn't work...when
I attached the word document as an email and mailed it to
myself it continued to track changes and the Track
Changes feature continued to be greyed out. My other
documents don't do this, just the Outlook documents
changed to Word for sending messages...

Please help me turn off this annoying feature...I don't
even know how it got turned on...thanks.

Few people are going to take the time to track down your previous messages
and responses. You are better off continuing in the same thread. Also, you
might want to quote the material you are responding to.

Charles,
I sure would have loved to continue in the same thread,
however, NOONE was answering my question. Until you that
is...and it wasn't even about my concern.

Here ya go if you want all of it:

Hi. Somehow I've turned on a feature that inserts my
name in brackets like this: [Marissa](in bold and italic
type) before a letter that I type as an update to an
existing document. I've been searching help topics for 2
hours trying to figure out how to turn it off. Please
help if you can. Thanks.

You've turned on revision/tracking mode. How to turn it
off depends on which
version of Word you're using. Assuming Word 2002 or Word
2003, choose
Tools - Track Changes to toggle tracking off/on. Or,
click the TRK
indicator in the Status bar at the bottom of the Word
window.

Thanks for responding. I'm using Word 2002.

I see where you're talking about in the Tools menu,
however, the choice for Track Changes is greyed out
(cannot be clicked). Same in the bottom status bar.

I tried the command next to it, ctrl+shft+E and that
didn't turn it off either.

Any other suggestions?

I'm sorry, I'm just a LITTLE frustrated. ANYONE who can
help me get this blasted "feature" turned off I'd be in
your debt.

It might be helpful to know that it only seems to happen
in Word that is opened up when I forward an Outlook email.
