Hi folks,

When I first installed this win2kpro system, I had
answered "yes" when asked if I wanted one user to be
automatically logged in. That has worked well until
yesterday. There was some glitch that prevented the system
from being able to access the disk it booted from. I fixed
this with the repair option of Setup.

But now, when it tries to do the automatic login (as a
user named "mab"), the login fails with a message saying
it got an Access Denied response to trying to open "the
profile" (it does not say which profile, but I assume it's
"mab"'s.

With the automatic login in effect, the only way to become
administrator is to first log out from the account that
was automatically logged in, and then log into the
Administrator account.

But I can't log out if I can't first log in! Can anyone
suggest a way to fix this? I do not want to re-install
the OS and all the 3rd party software I have on the
machine.

I loaded a frsh copy of W2K into a spare partition, but
at that point I'm stumped. I don't know what I could do
to fix the problem on the original partition.

Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks, in advance,

Well, I found it. Under "c:\Documents and Settings", the
file mab.PCNAME was empty. After copying the contents of
the file "mab" into mab.PCNAME while booted from another
partition, I no longer get the error that was preventing
me from logging in.

Now, I just need to figure out how to disable the
automatic login itself. The only place I've seen ay
reference to it was during the origial Setup.

Any suggestions?

Thanks and regards,

- michael
