Automatic logoff logout of user after inactivity

I've read three threads on WINEXIT.SCR and still have not
been able to find a way to lock all users into
this 'screensaver' so that if they walk away they will be
logged out after say... 15 minutes of inactivity.

How do I get all users to be locked into using this
screen saver? (and with the settings I make)

How do I keep them from changing it? (Registry somewhere
to not allow use of display or screensaver for example.)

If this is posted here somewhere already, please point me
in that direction. (I've looked, but just can't find it!)

Thanks all! --O.

You need to install winexit.scr as described in KB below, make it their screensaver
in display properties/screensaver, set the wait time to fifteen minutes, check the
box for password protected. You will also need to configure winexit.scr to force
application termination or it will not log a user off if an application is open. That
is something to consider as users may lose data, and locking the computer via
screensaver may be a better option. To keep users from changing settings you can use
Group Policy/user configuration/administrative templates/control panel/display - hide
screensaver tab. See the second link below as a registry mod may need to be done to
allow winexit.scr to work for non administrators. --- Steve

Steve, Thanks for the info, but, how do I "make it their
screensaver in display properties/screensaver"? How do I
ensure that this screensaver is used by every user? OR
if it is installed on a machine, does it become the
default screen saver for every user?

Thanks again! --Otis

You will have to select it from the available screensavers after it is installed or
copied to the \winnt\system32 folder of their computers. You can also do this via
Group Policy in user configuration/administrative templates/control panel/display -
screensaver executable name. It will not become the default screensaver, you will
have to configure it either at each machine via display properties or use Group
Policy as I mentioned. Of course you will also want to use Group Policy to prevent
users from accessing screen saver page so that they can not change settings. The only
thing you can't do via Group Policy is to configure winexit.scr to automatically
close applications. That has to be done at the individual machine level and if it is
not done, then the computer will not log the user off if they have an open
application. --- Steve
