Automatic insertion of the = sign

This one is really driving me up the wall so i would
really appreciate some help / solution.

I have an Excel sheet that always inserts an = sign
whenever I enter anything like a formula. Eg 4/5 becomes
=4/5 which obviously displays 0.8
This makes entering dates awkward as this happens even if
the cell is date formated. Pasting a "working" cell from
another workbook doesn't correct the problem

This does not happen on any other sheets, even if I enter
a new sheet into the problematical workbook.

Hi David!

If this isn't happening on all sheets you should ensure cells are
pre-formatted as General.

But I can't understand the problem arising if you have pre-formatted
as a date.

If it happens on all sheets it would be Transition Formula Entry in
Tools > Options > Transition. But you say it is only on one sheet.

Norman/David

Transition Formula Entry is not a workbook setting, it is a worksheet setting
under Tools>Options>Transition>"Sheet Options"

I would suggest it is checked on the one specific sheet. Uncheck it.

Hi Gord!

Thanks for that. Testing beats assuming!
