Hi there everyone,

I am looking for a way to import all the tables in a
oracle database through a ODBC link to access at a
scheduled time of day.

As a way of backing up an oracle database.

Has anyone managed to do this??

many thanks

eddy

Surely, Oracle has much more sophisticated / comprehensive back-up
facilities than what you proposed.

I use Microsoft MS-SQL Server rather than Oracle and I can set the server to
do the following back-up on some of the important databases as follows:

* Full back-up of the databases every Sunday 02:00
(back-up files expire after 4 weeks and get deleted automatically)

* Differential back-up Mon-Sat 02:00
(back-up files expire after 2 days and get overwritten automatically)

* Transaction Log back-up every 4 hours.
(back-up files expire after 2 days and get deleted automatically)

All these are done automatically by the MS_SQL Server while users are
on-line. Server Log records all actions for me to at later. In fact, if I
want, the server can send e-mails or page me if something goes wrong. Tape
drives can also be used.

Oracle would have equivalent back-up facilities. Personally, I would use
the server facilities rather than importing the Tables into an Access MDB
file.

Perhaps, you should check with the Oracle administrator?

I totally agree, this is definitly not a good idea. Besides Access has
size limitation. There's zillion of better ways to safeguard data.
