I installed a video card on my computer. Upon startup it automatically
installed the video drivers from the xp os. After a minute or two, the
computer would shut down and restart. it did several times. I uninstalled the
video drivers and restarted. on startup, os automatically installed the
drivers, same problem. Downloaded nvidia drivers from web site and installed,
same problem. Error message said driver stuck in a loop. Uninstall drivers
and card. Put back original card, no problems.

My question, is there a way that I can prevent automatic installtion of
video drivers on startup, so I can manually install them myself?

Thanks, Phil

Press F-8 during black screen startup phase, to enter Safe Mode from the
menu. This will load VGA drivers. Use Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) to load
the driver from the properties of the Display Adapter device.

I tried your suggestion and I thought that was a great idea, it didn't work.
I tried installing downloaded drivers, drivers from the cd, drivers on
startup, normal and safe mode, cleaned up hard drive, everything I could
think of. No luck! Put back original card, works fine. There's a problem with
those drivers and that os. Card works fine on my other computer. Thanks for
your reply. I'll live with what I have.

Great info, thanks! Since the computer works fine with the card I had in
before and put back in, and also know that there is nothing wrong with the
card, I'll leave well enough alone for now. At least I know that there are
problems with this issue and not me. Thanks again!! Phil
